Application for Extension of Period of Stay<\/b><\/h3>\n
Applications are accepted from three months prior to<\/span><\/b> the current period’s expiration date.\u3000Applicants are required to visit the Immigration bureau to complete the procedures immediately upon receiving a notification of the result of the application. <\/span><\/div>\n

Required Items<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Passport<\/li>\n
  2. Alien Registration Card or Residence Card<\/li>\n
  3. Certification of Enrollment (or Certificate of Enrollment Period for Research Students) \u30fb\u30fb\u30fb issued by automatic certificate issuing machine<\/li>\n
  4. Academic Transcript \u30fb\u30fb\u30fb issued by automatic certificate issuing machine
    * Students without a transcript, such as research students, must submit a certificate of research content written by their academic advisor (free format).<\/li>\n
  5. Application Forms for Extension of Period of Stay

  6. Processing Fee 4,000 Japanese yen<\/li>\n
  7. Documents that prove the applicant\u2019s financial ability to cover living expenses

    Part-time Job Permission<\/b><\/h3>\n

    In case international students with Student resident status wish to work part-time, they must apply for and receive a permission before they begin a part-time job. Once they are permitted, a sticker to be affixed inside the applicant\u2019s passport is issued . <\/span>The permission expires on the same day as the student\u2019s Status of Residence. Students are required to show the affixed sticker at the Student Affairs Office.<\/span><\/p>\n

    How to Apply<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Applicants submit completed application forms to the Immigration Bureau directly. As a general rule, permits will be issued on the day of application.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

      IMPORTANT<\/b><\/span>\u3000<\/b>Changes due to a Revision of the Immigration Control Act<\/b><\/h3>\n

      Revision to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act came into effect on July 1st<\/sup>, 2010. Pay careful attention to the following changes in the regulations relating to the status of residence of foreign nationals living in Japan.<\/p>\n

      <\/div>\n

      1. Integration of \u201cCollege Student\u201d and \u201cPre-College Student\u201d statuses<\/b>
      \nUnder the new regulations, when students<\/b><\/span><\/strong> with \u201cPre-College Student\u201d residence status enter a university, they do not have to change their status to \u201cCollege Student\u201d as long as there is no change in their educational activities. <\/span><\/b>If their period of stay will expire while they are attending the university, they must apply for an extension of the period of stay at the Immigration Bureau prior to the current period\u2019s expiration date. Those who have \u201cPre-College Student\u201d residence status are also eligible to apply for multiple re-entry permission.<\/p>\n

      2. A \u201csix months\u201d period of stay category has been added for those with \u201cCollege Student\u201d residence status<\/b>
      \nThe period of stay categories for \u201cCollege Student\u201d status are now six months<\/span><\/b>, one year, one year and three months, two years, or two years and three months.<\/p>\n

      3. Part-time Job Permission<\/span><\/strong><\/div>\n
      <\/div>\n
      An \u201cOfficial Letter of Recommendation\u201d is no longer required to make an application. Teaching or research assistant positions that are contracted for paid activities with the university need not apply for a work permission.
